SMP Laser Removal

Laser Removal of SMP is the safest, most effective method for the removal and correction of Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)
Are you experiencing regret over a scalp micropigmentation (SMP) treatment that didn’t meet your expectations? You’re not alone. At our leading scalp micropigmentation clinic in Glasgow, we understand that SMP regret can be a challenging experience.
There are many reasons why people choose to remove their Scalp Micropigmentation, some of those reasons include;

  • SMP hairline is the wrong shape for your head
  • The shade being too light or dark
  • The wrong ink was used and has now changed colour
  • Has the artist applied the ink too deep and it has blown out
  • Is the impression size incorrect

How Does Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser Work?

The Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser emits short pulses of high-energy light, which are absorbed by the pigment particles within the skin. This energy causes the pigment particles to fragment into smaller particles, which are then gradually eliminated by the body’s natural processes.

The laser’s unique technology allows for precise targeting of the pigment without causing damage to surrounding skin tissue, resulting in minimal discomfort and downtime for the patient.

Scalp Micropigmentation Removal Process

Initial Consultation

Before any Scalp Micropigmentation Removal treatment can begin, a consultation must be carried-out to determine whether full removal, fading, or correction is required, and to discuss the procedure, advise on costs and treatment times, and answer any questions. A patch test will be performed to determine the correct starting settings and wavelengths and, assuming the client wishes to proceed, they would then return 1-2 weeks later, when the results of the patch test can be analysed and the rest of the Micropigmentation can be treated.

Q-Switched ND:YAG Laser

Most SMP can be fully removed in just a couple of sessions with our advanced Q-Switched ND:YAG Laser.

Quick Sessions

The sessions are usually very quick, whether you need a few small sections lasered or the full scalp.

Treatment Timescales

The sessions are 4-6 weeks apart to allow the body’s immune system to expel the smaller ink particles of ink

Post Treatment

The area will be red and warm for a couple of hours post treatment. It’s important to keep the scalp clean and apply antiseptic cream over the next few days post treatment.

SMP Removal FAQ’S

Does it hurt?

Everyone’s pain threshold is different, but most people describe it around a 5/10. We pre cool the scalp and you can apply numbing cream before you arrive if you choose.

How long does the treatment take?

Normally 5-10 minutes

Do I need a patch test?

Yes, then we need to wait a minimum of 48 hours before treatment

How many treatments will I need?

Normally only 1 or 2 sessions

Is there any down time?

Your scalp will be a bit tender for the next few hours, but you should be fully healed and back to normal within around 24 hours. We recommend applying antiseptic cream frequently over the next few days until the skin has healed. Its also advised to stay away from saunas, steam rooms, swimming pools and anywhere that your skin can pick bacteria.

Will laser removal affect my existing hair?

It won’t damage any hair follicles or prevent any growth of hair, however it can temporarily blanche the hair making it turn white. This is almost always a temporary reaction and it will grow back normal.
